Lexus’ next LS will inaugurate the V6.
Details are beginning to emerge about what will power Toyota’s born-again Supra.
Top-end variants will likely use a performance-focused hybrid drivetrain, but more affordable models will rely on a brand new V6 engine that’s called 943F internally. The six-cylinder will generate over 400 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque in its most basic configuration thanks to a pair of turbochargers. It will spin the coupe’s rear wheels, but transmission options remain unconfirmed for the time being.
The Supra won’t get the honor of inaugurating the V6, however. It’ll most likely make its debut early next year under the hood of the next-generation Lexus LS, and it could find its way into the GS’ engine bay before it goes in the Supra.
The next Toyota Supra is tentatively scheduled to make its debut in 2019, meaning it might not land until the 2020 model year. Enthusiasts who are saving up for the BMW-badged model are in luck because an earlier rumor claims we’ll see it about a year before the Supra.
