Chevrolet announces 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro

Just in time for the theater launch of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Chevrolet has announced a Bumblebee-inspired version of its 2012 Camaro Coupe.

The third installment of the Transformers franchise - Dark of the Moon (or Dark Side of the Moon, as the original press release read) - is set to hit theaters this week, prompting Chevrolet to launch a second, Transformers-themed version of its Camaro sports car.

Chevrolet first launched a Transformers edition of its popular two-door back in 2009, with the latest version following the same general blueprint. Like the original, the follow up offers buyers a road-going version of the Transformers character Bumblebee.

Set to launch on the 2012 version of the Camaro Coupe, the Transformers Special Edition package will be available on 2LT and 2SS models finished in Rally Yellow. The Transformers package includes all the content of the RS package, plus additions like black rally stripes, a unique rear spoiler, 20-inch black painted wheels and Autobot Shield logos.

Bumblebee's color scheme is carried over to the car's interior, with the car featuring black leather and contrasting yellow stitching. Embroidered Autobot logos are also included on the front headrests and center console lid.

Two dealer-installed options are also available - 21-inch black wheels and a black ground effects package.

The ordering process for the 2012 Transformers Special Edition Camaro will begin in July, with deliveries scheduled for September. The package will tack on $3,000 to the price of the Camaro.

In addition to the United States and Canada, the limited edition Camaro will also be available in China, Japan, Europe, South America, and the Middle East.
