Ford’s pony car is about to get a mid-cycle update.
Ford will update the sixth-generation Mustang for the 2018 model year, and a leaked ordering guide gives us an early look at some of the changes in store.
One of the most noteworthy changes for the next model year is that the Mustang will no longer be available with a V6 engine, according to documents uncovered by enthusiast website Mustang6G. The 3.7-liter six makes 300 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 280 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. Buyers who don’t want a V8-powered ‘Stang will be left with the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost, which makes 310 horses and 320 pound-feet of torque.
The list of options will grow with the long-rumored addition of a 10-speed automatic transmission. Buyers will also be able to pay extra for a dual exhaust system with four tips, adaptive dampers borrowed from the Shelby GT350 (pictured), and a bundle named “Performance Package 2.” It’s too early to tell what it will include, though Mustang6G believes it will add track-focused components designed to position the Mustang in the same arena as the Chevrolet Camaro 1LE.
The mechanical upgrades will be complemented by a new look, though the updates will be more evolutionary than revolutionary. Inside, the Mustang will receive a minor makeover and it will likely adopt a new infotainment system.
The 2018 Ford Mustang will be presented to the public in the coming months. Sales will kick off shortly after in the United States and abroad.

Will the new suspension make the ride smoother or is it just for performance? 🤔
No V6? That’s a bummer. Always liked having that as an option.
Love the idea of a 10-speed automatic transmission! Can’t wait to try it out. 🚗💨
Why does Ford think ditching the V6 is a good idea? Seems like a mistake.
Thanks for the update! Looking forward to seeing the new design.
Will the dual exhaust system make it sound like a beast on the road?
Adaptive dampers sound cool, but will they cost a fortune to maintain?
Really excited for the Performance Package 2. Hope it’s worth the hype! 😎
Just when I saved up for a V6, they go and remove it. Typical!
Is it just me, or does the idea of a 2.3-liter engine sound underwhelming?
Hope they improve the interior quality. Always felt a bit plasticky to me.
