The crossover received a ‘good’ rating in each IIHS crash scenario.
Mazda’s 2017 CX-3 compact crossover has earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The IIHS has not yet published specific details of the CX-3 crash tests, but the crossover presumably received ‘good’ ratings in each of five collision scenarios. To qualify for the 2016 TSP+ rating, vehicles must also earn an ‘advanced’ or ‘superior’ mark in the automatic emergency braking assessment.
It is unclear if the rating applies to just the 2017 model year or also the inaugural 2016 edition. Both share the same styling, save for new wheels and other trim enhancements for 2017.
The CX-3 is powered by a Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter engine with 146 horsepower and as many lb-ft of torque. Buyers can choose from front-wheel or all-wheel drive, available as a $1,250 upgrade.
The 2017 CX-3 is due to arrive in showrooms by early July, with pricing starting at $20,860 (including $900 freight).

Awesome news for Mazda! 🚗 Safety first! #MazdaCX3
Does the safety rating also apply to the older models or just 2017?
Finally, a car that’s both stylish and safe! Well done, Mazda! 🎉
Nice to see Mazda stepping up their game! Is the fuel efficiency any good?
Why do they always make safety ratings so confusing? Can someone explain? 😅
Top Safety Pick Plus? Sounds fancy. What does it actually mean?
