Jumping onto the latest automotive bandwagon, General Motors has begun development of its own autonomous vehicle technology. GM’s jump to autonomous tech follows similar moves by Google, Toyota and Nissan.
Seen here testing in Michigan – which recently began issuing autonomous vehicles licenses – GM is currently trying out its self-driving technology on a Cadillac SRX crossover. This particular prototype is outfitted with a number of different sensors and cameras, including LiDar.
As you can see from our spy shots, the equipment needed for true autonomous driving isn’t exactly production-feasible, but that time is coming. GM and other manufacturers have targeted a 2020 on-sale date for autonomous vehicles, by which time the technology needed will be much smaller and better integrated into design.
However, look for self-driving vehicles to move into the mainstream sometime next decade.

Wow, a self-driving Cadillac? Can’t wait to see it on the road! 🚗✨
Is this the future or just a fancy gadget for the rich?
How does the LiDar sensor work in different weather conditions? 🤔
Another step towards a dystopian future… 😒
2020 seems optimistic. Do you think GM will meet that target?
I hope they include a manual override. I still like driving myself!
Thanks for the update! Keep the spy shots coming.
Imagine getting a speeding ticket in a self-driving car. Who pays? 😂
GM is late to the party. Google and Tesla are way ahead!
Will these cars be able to drive in rural areas?
Can you choose which routes the car takes, or does it decide for you?
