2027 Mini Countryman Untamed Reworks Its Chassis for Rougher Routes, Not Just Its Appearance

Mini has given the 2027 Countryman Untamed a 0.6-inch suspension lift, all-terrain tires and up to 8.75 inches of ground clearance.

The Untamed treatment will be available in North America on the gasoline-powered Countryman S ALL4 and the fully electric Countryman SE ALL4. It changes more than the crossover’s appearance. Mini also adapted key vehicle-control systems to suit the altered suspension and tires, making the package a coordinated chassis revision rather than a purely visual edition.

A modest lift works with purpose-selected tires

The suspension raises the Countryman by 0.6 inch, resulting in as much as 8.75 inches of ground clearance. That additional space beneath the vehicle is relevant on uneven surfaces, where exposed components may otherwise come closer to rocks, ruts or raised sections of a route. Clearance by itself, however, does not establish how the crossover will perform on a particular trail.

Mini pairs the lift with Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires. These are mounted on exclusive 19-inch light-alloy wheels. Although the Untamed has sometimes been characterized as using smaller wheels, the documented specification establishes only that these model-specific wheels measure 19 inches. There is no supported basis for presenting their diameter as a reduction.

The tires are the other principal physical change. Their all-terrain specification is intended for a broader mix of surfaces than ordinary road-focused rubber. Together, the added clearance and revised tires give the Untamed hardware suited to travel away from smooth pavement, but no comparative off-road test result establishes how much farther it can go than a regular Countryman.

Road & Track’s report on the 2027 Countryman Untamed identifies the 0.6-inch lift, the maximum 8.75-inch clearance and the combination of 19-inch wheels with Pirelli all-terrain tires.

The electronic calibration changes with the hardware

A suspension lift and different tire construction alter more than the distance between the body and the road. They can also change how a vehicle responds during braking, steering and abrupt directional inputs. Mini therefore did not install the new components while leaving every control system untouched.

The automaker recalibrated the anti-lock braking system, dynamic stability control and steering for the revised suspension and all-terrain tires. ABS manages wheel lock during braking, while stability control can intervene when the vehicle’s movement diverges from the driver’s intended path. Steering calibration shapes how commands at the wheel translate into a response from the vehicle.

These revisions matter because electronic controls are tuned around the behavior of the chassis and tires. Changing the ride height and fitting a different type of tire introduces variables that the control software must accommodate. In this case, Mini adjusted the relevant systems around the Untamed hardware instead of treating the tires and suspension as isolated additions.

Mini has not quantified the effect of each adjustment, so the recalibration does not prove a specific reduction in stopping distance or a measurable increase in traction or steering response. What it establishes is the scope of the package: the Untamed combines physical changes with corresponding control-system revisions.

Gas and electric Untamed specifications compared

Both North American versions bear the ALL4 designation, but they reach their outputs through different propulsion systems. The Countryman S ALL4 uses a turbocharged gasoline engine, while the SE ALL4 relies on two electric motors and a traction battery.

Specification Countryman S ALL4 Untamed Countryman SE ALL4 Untamed
North American availability Yes Yes
Propulsion 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Two electric motors
Drive designation ALL4 ALL4 all-wheel drive
Output 241 hp 308 hp
Torque 295 lb-ft 364 lb-ft
Battery Not applicable 64.7 kWh

The electric model produces 67 hp and 69 lb-ft more than the gasoline version. Those differences do not provide a complete performance comparison because propulsion type, vehicle mass and power delivery also shape acceleration and response. The effect of the Untamed equipment on curb weight and acceleration has not been specified.

The 308-hp figure is consistent with the wider US-market electric lineup. Car and Driver’s 2027 Mini Countryman Electric overview states that US models use two motors, ALL4 all-wheel drive and a combined output of 308 hp.

The regular electric crossover provides useful context for that specification. An earlier assessment of the Mini Countryman EV’s real-world performance examined how its 308-hp output translated on the road. That result cannot be applied directly to the Untamed, whose suspension and tire package differs.

What changes specifically on the electric Countryman

For the Countryman Electric, the Untamed specification adds raised suspension, an additional half-inch of ground clearance and all-terrain tires compared with the standard electric crossover. The half-inch comparison describes the increase over the regular electric model, while the broader specification lists the Untamed suspension lift as 0.6 inch.

The electric Untamed retains the dual-motor arrangement used by US Countryman Electric models. Its 308 hp and 364 lb-ft are therefore paired with the chassis and tire changes rather than an increase in propulsion output. The gasoline model likewise retains its stated 241 hp and 295 lb-ft from the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.

This distinction keeps the functional focus on what Mini changed beneath the vehicle. Untamed buyers are choosing between turbocharged gasoline power and a dual-motor electric system, but both versions combine their existing output with added clearance, all-terrain tires and revised chassis calibration.

The package consequently addresses several requirements associated with leaving smooth pavement, though it does not turn power output into a measure of trail ability. Clearance creates more space beneath the crossover, the tires adapt its contact with loose or uneven surfaces, and the recalibrated controls account for that hardware. Neither version has documented specialized low-range gearing or another such system in the specifications considered here, so the Untamed’s case rests on these targeted changes rather than on an unsupported claim of comprehensive off-road capability.
